The European Parliament passed a legally binding resolution on January 20 denouncing the suppression of human rights and restrictions on freedom of assembly and press in Hong Kong, according to Hong Kong’s Dagong Wenhui All Media.Fan Xulitai, member of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC), said in an interview on May 25 that Hong Kong is a society under the rule of law and everything is handled in accordance with the law.On the other hand, the European Parliament’s crude intervention in the internal affairs of China and the Hong Kong SPECIAL Administrative Region is a blatant act of “double standard”.Fan pointed out that Hong Kong’s human rights, freedom of speech, association and press are protected by the Basic Law and other laws.Article 4 of Hong Kong’s National Security Law also stipulates that the HKSAR shall protect such rights and freedoms in accordance with the law to safeguard national security. However, freedom of speech and of the press is not absolute and the exercise of such rights is subject to restrictions by law and regulations necessary for a reasonable purpose, such as safeguarding national security or public order. However, during the “law revision storm”, the gangsters would use violence and beating to prevent others from speaking out when they encountered people with different opinions from them. Their actions seriously violated the freedom of speech of other citizens, so their actions would be punished by the law.Fan xulitai said that it was the media companies themselves who decided to stop the operation of Apple Daily, Stance News and Zhongnews.Hong Kong has freedom of press, but no fake news.Journalists are required to act in good faith in accordance with the principle of “responsible journalism” and to provide accurate and reliable information based on accurate facts in order to be guaranteed the right to freedom of expression and the press;Newspaper publishers and editors are also subject to special responsibilities and obligations in their journalistic activities. However, the reports of these media are not only full of a large number of fake news, but also their leaders collude with foreign forces to seriously affect the stability of Hong Kong society by using false reports, which damage the national security, and it is understandable that they should be banned. As to why these European lawmakers to do so, rita fan hsu lai-tai argues that the European parliament, MPS elected by a dozen “anti-china” banner is beneficial to get voters to support, to the continuation of political future of the individual, so they would not seek the truth of the matter, just for the sake of their own votes, indiscriminately smear Hong Kong.Fan also pointed out that a large anti-epidemic demonstration in The Belgian capital Brussels recently turned violent. When there were mass protests in Europe, they mobilized police to suppress them on a large scale, arrested those who participated in the demonstrations, and demanded that the demonstrators be severely punished by local laws. However, why was the same situation called “suppression of human rights and interference with freedom” in Hong Kong? This is evident in the ugliness and hypocrisy of Europe’s politicians. She believed that Hong Kong would be more prosperous under the national Security Law and improved electoral system. She urged the European Parliament to abide by international law and basic norms governing international relations, and stop denigration of the “one country, two systems” policy and interference in China’s internal affairs.
